TimeBanking around Michigan

There are many other TimeBanks in Michigan that are engaging their members with activities and events on a monthly basis.  One of these TimeBanks, the Unity in Our Community TimeBank in SW Detroit, has opened their classes to members of other Michigan TimeBanks when space is available.  Take a look at some of these great classes coming up in the next several months and let Jennie Weakley know if you would like to attend by emailing her or calling her at 248-231-2412.

Peruvian cooking class: 12-5-12, Wednesday 6:30pm- Taught by Giovanna. You may have attended her Brazilian cooking class a couple of years ago, and if you did you already know how talented she is! Estimated cost is $3-$4 per person (estimating 10 participants).  Please RSVP to make sure space is still available.

Italian cooking class: 12-11-12, Tuesday 6pm- Taught by Terry Whitfield and Joe Spain. Please join us for the last in a series of cooking classes in partnership with Welcoming Michigan. Cost is only $1, plus your time of course. Joe is the new coordinator of the Ferndale TB, and will be helping with this class to see how we do it here in Southwest Detroit. This class will be held at the BCI office located at 6900 McGraw 48210. Please RSVP to make sure space is still available.

12th Night Celebration: 1-4-13, Friday 6-8pm- Hosted by Bridging Communities, Inc. BCI welcomes you to come to their annual celebration night for friends, volunteers, and donors. There is no charge for this event. They provide light refreshments and cocktails (mostly wine and margaritas), you provide the conversations. Great opportunity to mix and mingle! No RSVP necessary, hope to see you there!

Quick and Easy Gumbo: Date and Time to be determined (sometime in January)- Taught by Tracy Lewis, TimeBank member and Executive Director at the Chadsey-Condon Community Organization. If you made it to her creamy chicken and mushroom risotto class we know you'll want to make it to this one too! Learn to make a quick and easy recipe that will wow your family and friends! Estimated cost is $5-$7 per person.

Chinese: Date and Time to be determined (sometime in February)- Taught by new member Aisia. Our cook has attended a few classes with us and has decided to join the TimeBank! Her first method of earning hours will be to teach her own cooking class. On the menu there for the class is Sweet & Sour Chicken and fried rice (rumor has it there may be egg rolls too, but I guess we'll have to wait and see). Estimated cost is $3-$5 per person.

How to make your own Easter Candy: 3-6-12, Wednesday 5pm. Take a journey down memory lane with Barbara as she recalls a day when people made things themselves. She has a large collection of molds and will teach you how to make and shape your own chocolates. Location is the BCI office at 6900 McGraw 48210, and the estimated cost is $3-$5 per person. Please RSVP to make sure space is available.
