Summer Fun
The TimeBank participated in the Huntington Wood Fourth of July Parade again this year. If you didn't make it to the parade, you missed a great time. An orientation followed at the Huntington Woods Library on the 8th of July and we welcomed a new member! The next orientation is coming up in September so keep an eye open for the date. Over the last month the Community Garden has grown quite a bit and members have been coming out to weed, water and harvest. If you haven't had a chance to participate in the garden and would like to, contact
Suzanne so that you can be added to email list.
Two of the Garden Steering Committee Members, Suzanne and Bill,
walk through the garden in all of it's mid-summer glory.
What We Are Doing Next
Great opportunities to engage with fellow TimeBankers and exchange hours are coming up! July 21st - Board Game Day: Tom M. and Tom G. have invited any TimeBank members and their guests to come and play board games at their home
tomorrow,
Monday the 21st. The event starts at
Noon and goes until around
10pm. Drop in and play or bring a game if you would like to along with snacks and/or drinks. Let
Tom M. know if you plan to come.
July 25th - Movie Night: Stop by the Lockwood/Appleton residence in Huntington Woods to watch a movie with your neighbors. The movie being shown this month is "The Internet's Own Boy" which is a story about a young programmer/activist, Aaron Swartz, who saved the internet and sparked many important progressive projects in his short time here. The movie starts at
6:30pm and goes to
8:30pm. Bring a snack to share.
July 27th - Annual Meeting: Join us at our annual meeting! The meeting is at Nancy and Vic's home, which means you can bring the family and take a dip in the pool while you are there. Bring a pot-luck dish and your bathing suits/towels. We will go over the timebank's accomplishments for the year and will enjoy some fun, food and fellowship. The meeting will be from
2pm to 5pm. Let
Nancy know if you can make it!
August 9th - Green Cruise: One of our newest cabinet members, Karl Dorn, has spearheaded a united event between the Royal Oak - Huntington Woods TimeBank and Ferndale TimeBank to participate in this year's Green Cruise! This event is sponsored by the Sierra Club and celebrates the many ways that we can get from one place to another with only people power! Join us at the informational tent to tell paraders about the joys of TimeBanking or sign up to help lead the children's activities if you are young at heart. We hope to see you at the festivities. You should have received an email inviting you to sign up to participate and earn hours from sign up genius. If you did not receive this or need to be resent the invitation, let
Rachel know. More information about it can be seen on the
Sierra Club Website.
August 16th and 17th - Dream Cruise: The YMCA is looking for some TimeBank members to help sell shirts during the Dream Cruise this year. If you plan to be at the cruise anyway and would like to earn some time dollars while you are there, contact
Lisa at the YMCA and let her know what time you are available to assist.
September 14th - Picnic in the Garden: Our first ever Picnic in the Garden will be a showcase of how well our Community Garden has done this year and is an opportunity for everyone who worked on the garden, contributed to the garden or even just thought fondly of the garden to come out and enjoy a lunch on site with many of our home grown produce as the centerpiece. The Picnic will be from
12pm to 2pm and RSVP's will be recommended to reserve your space! Contact
Wendy and let her know if you would like to attend.
Items of Interest for YOU to Know
- The YMCA is eager to see TimeBank members at their facility using time dollars to enjoy classes, rentals and free swim time. Make sure that you have an updated picture of yourself added to the hOurworld software and then print your member ID card from your profile page. Bring that card in with you to the YMCA to show them that you are a Royal Oak - Huntington Woods TimeBank member and you can start enjoying all the "Y" has to offer. If you need any help at all with this process, contact Rachel and she can get you started or print the card off for you.
- You can now offer and request exchanges GLOBALLY through the hOurworld software online! If you don't want to go global at this time, you simply do nothing and everything will stay as it was. Your information will not be shared with anyone outside of our local timebank. In the event you would like to start offering and requesting exchanges outside of Royal Oak and Huntington Woods, you can make any offer "Global" by clicking on the earth icon when you create the offer or request. If you would like to learn more, contact Rachel Reyst-Carroll to set up a time for an orientation. This is a great opportunity for us to exchange with other timebanks in Michigan and to see what TimeBanks are offering in other states or other countries. If you have any questions, let us know!
